I love Continental !

Hello my dear BS classmates!
After thinking and praying about what could be my 2nd post in the blog due this week, I was reading a newspaper and drinking a delicious fruit tea. What a great life is being a student!
While I was reading the NY Times newspaper, suddenly one article caught my attention, the title is "Paper is out, cellphones are in".
It is really interesting, it talks about how air companies in the US are offering more and more services to customers.
Oh, but “what this new has to do with business strategy? Do not this post belong to Marketing class?”, you may think.
But let me share with you this, I found that this article it is a great example of business strategy, because it is well known that the air industry is under a fierce competition, specially after 9/11 where security costs were up and lot of new regulations were implemented all over the world, meaning more expenses and less revenues.
As a result, air companies like Continental had to implement Business Strategies to survive and not go out of business like other airlines.
One of these strategies was to be the first in offering self-services options, in this case it is the launching of a paperless boarding pass pilot program that allows passengers to receive boarding passes electronically on their cell phones or PDAs.
It is a wonderful business strategy which is going to set a standard where most of the other companies like American will also implement.
And this is not the first amazing strategy that Continental implemented. After reading the newspaper I was so amazed that I went to http://www.continental.com/ and I felt in love with the way the company understand the new environment of business.
Take a look guys and I assure you that you also will be surprised!
