Motorola new strategic direction

Posted by Leo - 20600788

Some weeks ago I heard about a rumor that Motorola was planning to break into two companies. I was curious to know the reason for that.

Was Motorola being persecuted and accused of monopoly like Microsoft? No.

I found that the main problem the company was facing it is its inability to come up with new products to replace the successful Razr cellphone, which was once a must-have phone but has faded from the scene, falling behind Nokia and Samsung.

Gregory Q. Brown, Motorola’s chief executive hope that by turning the mobile devices business into its own unit, the company would have better luck attracting a new chief executive to run it and revive Motorola’s reputation.

Motorola is being sued by investor Carl C. Icahn, who has pressured Motorola to make such a move to a new strategic direction and he questioned Motorola’s commitment to moving quickly to solve its problems.
