7. International Hospital

Hi, BS members.
This week, the video which was about international hospital impressed me because I could not imagine the fact before that many people went to abroad for medical service. However, the video showed that number of people coming to the international hospital in Thailand had steady increased, and this part is an important segment of Thailand’s tourism industry. So I tried to find an article about it, and I got one which compare to Korea.

According to this report, revenue of Korea tourism has decreased and it was 620 million deficits. The other side, India, Thailand, Singapore has earned a lot of foreign currency from the medical industry through oferring the service which is composite of medical and tourism, and the industry has rapidly increased. This increasing gives many opportunities to get a job to them. There are some features each country.

As you can see, in India, patients do not need to wait for operation and offer same service with low price. Thailand suggests that reliable medical service internationally and many related service with the industry such as spa, sightseeing, and so on. Singapore also operates medical service with global network and offers exclusive service center for foreigners. However, Korea does not seem to have this service, and experts say that Korea need to build infra structure for that service and released some regulations.

We have learned that the evolution of medical industry in the United States, and this situation is also challenge for American medical industry. They have weak point with price and maybe have more disadvantages to attract patient comparing to those countries. I think this is a new era of medical industry and the potential the industry has is huge and it would affect many other industries. Our medical industry is facing of competition with international hospitals, and I do not think our medical service quality is higher than them, so we have potential. So now we have to consider how we get into the international industry.
