“There will come a day when machines will think, but they will never have imagination”, that is a saying that I heard a couple of years ago and it stuck in my mind because I found it very true and I totally share this opinion.
I was reading one article about a passionate researcher in the field of artificial intelligence. Her name is Ms. Daphne Koller and in her curriculum of genius she won prices such as MacArthur Fellowship or the one given by the Association for Computing Machinery and the Infosys Foundation, which entitle the amount of $150,000.
More than the money, this is a symbolic honor to her, given by scientists and industry executives as recognition for her research, which has helped transform artificial intelligence from science fiction into an engineering discipline that is creating intelligent machines and systems.
What amazes me it is the fact that being that genius she refused to go to private companies to become a billionaire. She prefers to stay in Stanford University, doing research and working in creative projects, which makes her feel more useful to society, like researching how artificial intelligence can help to treat diseases like cancer.
This is a great example of a noble spirit, not going after the money but going after something that will make a change in the world. She is one of my heroes now and I think we need more students with that spirit of passion and creativity to change the world, Ms. Koller is an example to be followed.
